Capital Improvement Project

January 2009

The Greater Cleveland Peace Officer's Memorial Society (GCPOMS) was founded in 1985 in order to honor all fallen law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty, especially those from Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, and northern Summit Counties.

The GCPOMS built and maintains the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial located in Huntington Park at Lakeside Ave and W 3rd Street in downtown Cleveland. The memorial currently bears the name, agency and end of watch date of the 172 offices who have made the supreme sacrifice serving their communities since the founding of the Western Reserve.

Sadly, Ptl. Josuha Miktarian of the Twinsburg Police Dept and Ptl. Jarod Dean of the Boston Heights Police Dept will become the 173rd and 174th officers on the GCPOM when their names are added at this years Memorial service.

At the initial cost of nearly $300,000.00, the memorial was dedicated on May 14, 1993. Time and nature has taken it's toll on the memorial and it is in need of renovation. We are proud to announce that the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial will under go major improvements including a professional cleaning, re-caulking, needed minor repairs and the re-lettering of all names, agencies, dates, and dedication statement; removal of all existing landscaping; installation of an irrigation system, upgraded lighting, flagpoles, walkway with commemorative pavers, and improved  expanded landscaping.

When completed, this $100,000.00 capital improvement project will ensure that our fallen officers are honored in a grand, yet dignified manner.

Work began on December 2, 2008 with the removal of 12 large trees that formed the background of the memorial and the trimming of the 3 large  adjacent sycamore trees. Construction will commence as soon as the weather permits and most of the work should be completed in time for our 24th annual Police Memorial Commemoration, this coming May.

The formal dedication will occur at the Police Memorial Service on Friday, May 14, 2010 during our 25th Anniversary Celebration, May 13-16, 2010.

We are requesting the assistance of the community in helping to defray the cost of this project by becoming a sponsor.

Sponsorship provides organizations, businesses, and individuals the opportunity to demonstrate their support of law enforcement and ensuring that our fallen officers are forever remembered in a most reverent manner.

Sponsorship opportunities and the purchase of commemorative pavers are available to anyone wishing to contribute to this endeavor. For further information clink the provided links or contact the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society at gcpoms1985@yahoo.com, or call  216-906-9131.
